2009 Black Sticky Port
Our first foray into this genre is named after the soil that provides the exquisite Syrah fruit. When sufficiently moist, the soil in this block turns from agate-strewn clay-loam into "black sticky". Don't worry though, the wine only sticks to your palate with deep, thick, ripe blackberry and blueberry fruit, which persists through the rich, elongated finish. This wine deserves cellaring for at least 5 years or, in the near term, significant aeration. Chocolate dipped black raspberry tart anyone?
